Rep. Calvert Votes Against Democrat Spending Spree
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) reluctantly voted against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 4346, the CHIPS-Plus Act.
"Reducing the United States' dependence on China and reducing Chinese aggression should be a bipartisan, bicameral priority but it cannot come at the expense of the livelihood of the American people," said Rep. Calvert. "As a supporter of the original CHIPS legislation included in the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, I support increasing domestic semiconductor manufacturing and creating a secure supply chain for national security.
"However, just as we learned the U.S. economy is now in a recession, Senators Manchin and Schumer announced a partisan, costly reconciliation package. I could not in good conscience support a spending bill of this magnitude which, when taken with the Manchin-Schumer package, will raise taxes and cost the American people nearly $1 trillion. American families are facing record high inflation and rising interest rates, and I refuse to add to these hardships by supporting a Democrat plan to tax-and-spend in a vain attempt to save themselves from the reckoning that is coming this November."
