Rep. Calvert: “Today, Republican Warnings About a Radical Socialist Agenda Become a Reality”

November 19, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) issued the following statement regarding the multi-trillion-dollar socialist spending spree being advanced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats:

"House Democrats are advancing legislation that has been estimated to spend almost $5 trillion over 10 years and will fuel inflation, be destructive to our economy, and burden American families for years to come. Last year, Republicans warned voters that Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress would enact radical socialist policies if elected. Today, that warning became a reality. This socialist agenda shockingly imposes a new Made in America Tax that puts U.S. companies at a competitive disadvantage in our global economy. The result will be more jobs leaving our shores. House Democrats have put a bigger emphasis on growing the size of the IRS than growing economic opportunities for families.

The Congressional Budget Office's cost estimate confirms what we already knew – this multi-trillion-dollar spending bill will saddle our children and grandchildren with hundreds of billions of dollars in additional, crippling debt. Speaker Pelosi has been responsible for some of the worst legislation to ever come to the House floor and today she's set new lows both in terms of policy and process. Insultingly, the Speaker has even lied to Americans by telling them her muli-trillion-dollar bill will ultimately save taxpayers money.

As the saying goes, ‘those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.' At the ballot box, the American people have taken the Speaker's gavel from Nancy Pelosi before because she advanced a failed liberal agenda. Americans forced to pay trillions of dollars on an agenda that fuels inflation, hikes taxes on American manufacturers, makes our supply chain problems worse, and invests in a larger IRS will surely be looking to take away Pelosi's gavel once again. We pray that this abomination does not pass through the United States Senate."
