Rep. Calvert Supports the Great American Outdoors Act
Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) joined a bipartisan majority (310 to 107) of the House of Representatives in approving the Great American Outdoors Act (Senate Amendment to H.R. 1957). The legislation dedicates federal royalties from energy exploration to fix facilities and infrastructure in our national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, recreation areas and American Indian schools. The Great American Outdoors Act also permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund at $900 million a year to invest in conservation and recreation opportunities across the country.
"America's National Parks are treasures that must be protected and maintained in order to support their increasing popularity," said Rep. Calvert. "The Great American Outdoors Act will dedicate significant revenue towards addressing the maintenance backlog at our National Parks, which is nearly $2 billion among California's National Parks alone. The bill represents an appropriate balance between energy exploration and securing open space and outdoor recreational opportunities for future generations. Californians are fortunate to live in a state with diverse and unmatched wilderness and outdoor environments. The Great American Outdoors Act will help ensure that never changes."
