Rep. Calvert Statement on the Opening Day of the 118th Congress
Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) issued the following statement on opening day of the 118th Congress:
“Riverside County voters sent me to the House of Representatives to get things done, to change the direction of our country, and work towards solving the problems confronting America. There’s no one more responsible for helping Republicans end one-party rule in Washington, D.C. than my California colleague Kevin McCarthy. I’ve seen firsthand Kevin’s uncompromising fight and determination to advance our shared conservative goals. That’s why I have and will continue to support Kevin.
The overwhelming majority of House Republicans share my support for Kevin. A small number of holdouts acted out today to prevent the new Republican Majority from beginning its work. It’s especially frustrating because these members continue to move the goalposts and are incapable of clearly stating their desired end result. They have no viable alternative.
Make no mistake: these members are disenfranchising the millions of voters who put us in charge to secure our border; defund the 87,000 IRS agents; investigate the Afghanistan withdrawal, which killed one of my constituents; take on China and ensure our military superiority; and countless other conservative goals that have been clearly outlined by Kevin McCarthy and the rest of our Leadership Team. I believe my constituents have waited too long for solutions to these serious problems. If members of the House aren’t ready to govern, they need to step aside and let the adults in the room take charge. I will continue to support Kevin, regardless of how many ballots it takes. Tomorrow is a new day, and it is my hope that we will unify around Kevin McCarthy who has earned the job.”
