Rep. Calvert Statement on Impeachment Inquiry Vote

December 13, 2023

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) issued the following statement on the passage of House Resolution 918:

“Sunlight is said to be the best disinfectant. That is why I believe Americans are entitled to more transparency and answers about the Biden family business activities and official actions of President Joe Biden.

It is important for Americans to understand what actions the House of Representatives is taking today, and which actions it is not taking. The resolution approved today does NOT include articles of impeachment. The resolution does establish a legal process for the House to obtain answers the American people deserve. Under that process, House Democrats and the President are granted the same rights and privileges provided to House Republicans and the previous President in 2019. That process also gives the House the ability to go to court to enforce subpoenas as part of its effort to obtain information.

In the Hunter Biden indictment filed last week, prosecutors detailed roughly $7 million in untaxed income received by Hunter Biden starting in the final year his father served as Vice-President. Contrary to repeated statements from the President, Hunter Biden’s business partner testified before the House in July that on approximately 20 occasions Joe Biden was called in or put on speakerphone during Hunter’s business meetings.

The most recent federal charges against Hunter Biden were filed after two IRS whistleblowers stepped forward and testified that they believed Joe Biden’s Justice Department was slow-rolling its investigation and providing Hunter Biden with preferential treatment.

Americans deserve an unbiased application of the law. I believe the House must uncover the facts and follow them wherever they lead.”
