Rep. Calvert Statement on Afghanistan

August 26, 2021

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) issued the following statement on Afghanistan:

"My thoughts and prayers are with our Marines and Sailors, and their families, as we learn that multiple Marines and a Navy medic were killed in the attack at the Kabul airport. Our worst fears are now being realized with a suicide bombing and other attacks at HKIA, as the Biden Administration continues to put US troops and Afghan lives at unnecessary risk. My prayers are with those injured in these attacks. For our SIVs in country, please stay put. To our US troops: we see the impossible work you are doing, we are grateful, and we pray for your safe return. To the Biden Administration: we must increase the security of this operation immediately and NOT abandon the estimated 1,000 US Citizens still in country, Afghan SIVs or vulnerable refugees. This is a no-fail mission that is not over until EVERY American is home and we must make it clear that we do not negotiate with terrorists, and we will use any and all tools at our disposal to ensure the safety and protection of our citizens, at home and abroad. May God Bless our Troops."
