Rep. Calvert Statement on 25th Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act

July 24, 2015

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) issued the following statement ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):

"Virtually all of us have a family member, friend or neighbor who is disabled, and we have seen firsthand how they encounter significant challenges on a daily basis. Since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act our nation has taken great strides to remove unnecessary obstacles that complicate the lives of the disabled. Looking forward, more can and should be done to ensure the ADA is applied in ways that continue to improve the lives and truly protects the disabled as it was intended. After 25 years, it's safe to say that everyone's heart is in the right place and the time is now right to protect well-intended businesses from unwarranted lawsuits by allowing a compliance grace period in lieu of immediate lawsuits."
