Rep. Calvert Secures Federal Funding to Improve Public Safety in the 41st Congressional District

July 27, 2023

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) announced that he secured federal funding for a local public safety project in the Fiscal Year 2024 Homeland Security Appropriations bill. The legislation was approved by the House Appropriations Committee and is working its way through the House of Representatives. Approved federal funding requests by Members of Congress for local projects is allocated within their respective agency program accounts and does not raise the overall spending level of the bill.

The bill includes $1 million for an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Calimesa. The construction of a new EOC will enhance the coordination and communications between first responders in the event of an emergency, like the city experienced with the Sandalwood Fire in 2019.

“Calimesa is one of the fastest growing cities in California and desperately needs improved public safety resources,” said Rep. Calvert. “The federal funding for the Calimesa EOC I secured will help the city upgrade its public safety capabilities and keep its residents safe.”

“I am very thankful to the Congressman for his efforts on behalf of the City of Calimesa,” said Calimesa Mayor William Davis. “We are a small town, and these funds will allow us to develop and better our community. With this commitment, Congressman Calvert has shown that he really takes care of his constituents, even in one of his district’s smallest city. The devastating Sandalwood Fire in 2019 followed by the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the need for our city to have a dedicated facility for our emergency operations and this funding will assist the city in making our EOC a reality.”
