Rep. Calvert Introduces Resolution Honoring the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima
Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) introduced a resolution, H.Res. 142, in honor of the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. The critical battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II, in which nearly 7,000 U.S. Marines were killed, began 80 years ago this month and included the iconic raising of the American flag on Mount Suribachi. Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) is a co-lead and original cosponsor of the resolution.
“The Battle of Iwo Jima tested the strength and will of the American military in the Pacific,” said Rep. Calvert. “The bravery, sacrifice, and determination displayed by our Marines on Iwo Jima continues to inspire us 80 years later. It’s only fitting for Congress to remember and honor those who gave everything and fought so heroically on Iwo Jima to shape the future of freedom that we enjoy today.”
