Rep. Calvert: Appropriations Package Endangers American Families and Taxpayers

July 30, 2020

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42), Ranking Member of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement regarding the six-bill appropriations package brought to the floor by House Democrats:

"House Democrats have once again brought a package of appropriations bills to the floor that blows through our previously agreed upon budget caps. Even worse than being fiscally irresponsible, the bill includes a number of provisions that threaten the safety of American families. By cutting funding across all federal law enforcement agencies within the Department of Justice, House Democrats have dangerously embraced the defund the police movement. All of these partisan policy riders, including some very flawed provisions in the defense appropriations division, and cuts stand in the way of bipartisan support for the substantial good work the Defense Subcommittee was able to do providing the resources our military needs to protect America. I will advocate to drop these controversial provisions during the House-Senate negotiations with my colleagues and work to produce a final bill that can receive bipartisan support and be signed by the President."
