Rep. Calvert Announces CA-42 Priorities Included in Committee-Approved Water Bill

May 18, 2022

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) announced the inclusion of Riverside County infrastructure priorities in the House Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2022.

"The WRDA bill passed by the Transportation Committee will support critical water infrastructure projects and programs that move our nation forward," said Rep. Calvert. "This legislation includes key priorities for our community that will move the Murrieta Creek project towards construction and encourage the Corps of Engineers to allow the Corona Airport to remain in place. I appreciate the work of my colleagues on the Committee to include my priorities and look forward to supporting this legislation when it comes to the floor for a vote."

Murrieta Creek
Since the project was authorized in 2001, the costs and the benefits associated with Murrieta Creek have increased significantly. Congress must revisit the authorized costs of projects from time to time to ensure they remain a valuable use of taxpayer dollars. Language included in this WRDA bill reaffirms congressional commitment to the Murrieta Creek project, resetting the authorized cost to reflect current cost estimates, and moving us one step closer to resuming construction.

Corona Airport
The Corona Municipal Airport operates on land owned by the Corps of Engineers, and WRDA 2022 includes language encouraging the Corps to approve an extension of the lease once it expires, allowing this important asset in our community to remain operational and continue supporting local small businesses.
