Rep. Calvert and Norco City Council Voice Concerns with the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project

July 26, 2021

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) joined together with Norco Mayor Kevin Bash and the entire Norco City Council in sending a letter to the city of Riverside and Southern California Edison expressing their ongoing concerns regarding the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project.

"Norco residents are rightfully concerned about the many negative impacts the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project would have upon their community," said Calvert. "It's especially galling that Norco would suffer these impacts for a project that provides zero benefit to its residents or businesses. The above ground transmission lines would negatively affect Norco, the Santa Ana River corridor, and the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area by degrading recreation, natural resources, aesthetics, and property values. The lines would also increase wildfire risks, and their associated threat to human life as well as property and environmental damage. Just last week, PG&E announced it would underground 10,000 miles of transmission line and stated ‘it's too expensive not to underground. Lives are on the line.' I believe it's time for the proponents of the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project to come to the same conclusion."

Rep. Calvert previously expressed his concerns regarding the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project to the California Public Utilities Commission.

Last week, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) announced it would be undergrounding approximately 10,000 miles of power lines in High Fire Threat Districts. Portions of the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project route would intersect a High Fire Threat District.
