Funding for the Loma Linda Mobile Emergency Operations Trailer Secured by Rep. Calvert

April 5, 2022

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) highlighted the inclusion of $600,000 for the Loma Linda Mobile Emergency Operations Trailer project in the Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations bill. Rep. Calvert voted along with a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives to approve the bill on Wednesday, March 9th. The bill was subsequently approved by the Senate and signed into law by the President.

Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta requested the funding for the Mobile Emergency Operations Trailer project to purchase a new, mobile emergency operations trailer and associated medical and functional equipment. The emergency assets would help the region better respond to emergency situations, disasters and other significant crisis events. The emergency operations trailer could also be deployed onsite in the Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta parking lot during incidents of unusually high volumes.

"Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta deeply appreciates Congressman Ken Calvert's support of our request to establish a pre-built emergency operations center on our campus," said Loma Linda University Health President Richard H. Hart, MD, DrPH. "By expanding our patient care and response capabilities, we will be better positioned to serve our community in the event of emergency situations or excess demand for many years to come."

"The Loma Linda Mobile Emergency Operations Trailer project will provide our region with an improved capacity to respond in a time of crisis," said Rep. Calvert. "The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of preparing for a wide range of emergency scenarios. I'm grateful for the foresight of the Loma Linda University Medical Center – Murrieta to plan for meeting those future challenges."

Under the U.S. Constitution, all federal funding must be appropriated by Congress. As part of the annual appropriations process, members of Congress are provided the opportunity to submit Community Project Funding (CPF) requests to the Appropriations Committee for consideration. Rep. Calvert's CPF requests were submitted on behalf of local governments and non-profit organizations in the 42nd District. To satisfy required transparency and other safeguards, Rep. Calvert previously posted detailed CPF project descriptions online and certified that he had no financial interest in the projects. The funding included in the appropriation bills for CPF projects does not increase the overall size of their respective federal programs. The process merely allocates where approved federal funding is spent and reasserts Congress' constitutional role of appropriating funds.
