REMEMBERING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
April 8, 2009
Press Release
Congressman Calvert issued the following statement on the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
"Every year the United States recognizes thirteen days as federal holidays. It is vital that we remember and honor the reason behind the holiday, in this case, the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"This Monday we celebrate a man who, through calm determination, redefined the American way of life. Dr. King's legacy is one of peace, understanding, equality and brotherhood. During his time he taught us all about individual responsibility to treat others with respect and dignity regardless of race, religion, or income. Although his life was taken suddenly and tragically, his memory and teachings live on. Thank you Dr. King and God bless."
