Meth Caucus
Methamphetamine production and abuse continues to skyrocket across the country and is the primary drug threat in California. The Inland Empire remains a hotbed for methamphetamine production, particularly highly toxic “super labs” operated primarily by Mexican National Drug Trafficking Originations. According to the Inland Narcotics Clearing House, the Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties) alone accounted for about 19% of the super labs seized in California in 2003. There is no disputing that the manufacture, distribution and use of methamphetamine results in: increase crime, damage to the environment, hazardous waste that endangers the public, expensive cleanup costs often borne by Federal, State and local government agencies, and broken families.
That is why I, along with other Members of Congress, formed the bipartisan Congressional Caucus to Fight and Control Methamphetamine. Through this Caucus, I hope to raise national awareness of the problems and dangers associated with the abuse and production of methamphetamine and to help local entities in their daily battle with this devastating epidemic. |
