Rep. Calvert Announces 2020 Congressional Art Competition Winner

July 16, 2020

Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) announced the winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition from the 42nd District. The winning piece was created by Eleanor Roosevelt High School student and Eastvale resident Margaret Rosario.

"I want to congratulate Margaret Rosario on being this year's winner of the Congressional Art Competition," said Rep. Calvert. "Her artwork is a beautiful representation of the bond between Americans and their pets during the ongoing pandemic. I want to thank all of the tremendously talented artists from the 42nd District who submitted artwork in this year's competition."

Margaret explained that the piece, titled "Field Day," represents the new reality that "during the harsh times in quarantine, it's at least a field day for our pets that stay home with us."

Background on the Congressional Art Competition:

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative's office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
